Gate work is physical, it’s diagnostic, and it’s specific. You show up to a property, figure out why 400 pounds of steel has stopped doing what it’s supposed to do, and you fix it – correctly, documented, and priced before you touch anything. That’s the job. We don’t send technicians out to upsell or to guess. We send them out to find the problem, name it, write down what it costs to fix, and then fix it. If that sounds like the kind of work you want to do, keep reading.
Vance Gate Repair has been operating since 2014 across 32 states, and we’ve repaired or installed more than 22,000 gates since Adrian Vance started the company out of commercial access-control work. The documentation habit he developed on commercial sites – wiring diagrams, photographed limit-switch settings, a record left with every customer – is the same standard we hold every technician to today. That’s not marketing language. It’s how we run jobs.
Who We’re Looking For
- Gate Repair Technician: Someone who can diagnose a mechanical or electrical fault, name the part, and fix it without steering the customer toward a full replacement they don’t need.
- Gate Installer: Someone who reads a site, plans a post-and-panel layout, and closes out every job with the documentation the next technician would need to service it years from now.
- Gate Motor and Opener Specialist: Someone comfortable with the major automation brands – LiftMaster, FAAC, BFT, Linear, Viking, Ghost Controls, DoorKing, Elite, Mighty Mule – and honest enough to repair rather than replace when repair is the right call.
- Access Control Technician: Someone who has worked with keypads, intercoms, loop detectors, or cloud-based entry systems, and who documents what they wire as a matter of habit, not afterthought.
- Parts and Welding Specialist: Someone who can fabricate or source the hardware a repair needs, weld gate steel cleanly, and understands that field repairs have to hold for years, not just get through the day.
- Dispatcher or Customer Service: Someone who can talk to a homeowner whose gate is stuck at 7am, find the nearest available technician, and communicate a real arrival window – not a vague range and a callback promise.
What We Offer

Real Training and a Path Forward
Apprentices at Vance don’t spend their first months handing tools to someone else. They’re on jobs, watching the diagnostic process, learning the documentation standard, and building toward leading their own work. The path from apprentice to lead technician is not a vague promise – it’s the same path Adrian Vance walked on commercial access-control sites before he built the company. We teach the trade’s vocabulary, the major automation brands, and the paper trail that separates a professional job from one that has to be rediscovered on the next visit.
Work You Can Be Proud Of
Every job at Vance runs the same way: written price before anyone starts, photos of what was found and what was fixed, and a 365-Day Done Right Promise on every completed repair. When you leave a property, you leave a record – not a hope that it holds. That standard matters to the people who live behind these gates, and it matters to the technicians who put their name on the work. A lot of trade work is invisible the moment you drive away. This isn’t.
Local Crew, National Backing
You work with a local crew – your neighbors, your market, your license. What Vance and the Haven family contribute is the documentation system, the brand standards that govern how every job is run, and the buying relationships that keep parts and pricing honest. You’re not working for a distant call center. You’re working with people who know the driveways and the gate conditions in the same geography you do, backed by a company with the scale to support them properly.
Steady Demand
Driveway gates don’t stop breaking because the economy slows down. Homeowners with a gate that won’t open don’t wait for conditions to improve – they call the same day. Gate automation, access control, and structural repair are ongoing needs across every market we serve, and the service area keeps growing. If you do good work, there’s more of it.
Before
AfterNo Experience? Read This.
If you’ve spent time doing HVAC, irrigation, fencing, electrical, auto mechanics, or any trade that required you to think through a problem in the field – you already understand more of this job than you think. Gate work pulls from all of those disciplines: there’s steel, there’s low-voltage wiring, there’s hydraulic and electromechanical equipment, and there’s a customer on the other side of a driveway who needs a real answer, not a guess.
What we teach: the specific automation brands we service, how to read a limit-switch setting, how to document a job to Vance’s standard, and how to price a job in writing before you start it. What transfers from your background: problem-solving, tools, working in the field under pressure, and knowing when something isn’t right yet.
The first months are structured. You ride along, you ask questions, and you don’t close out a job until the documentation is done. By the time you’re running your own calls, you’ll know the work.
How to Apply

Let us know where you’re based, what kind of work you’ve done with your hands, and when you’re available to start. Hiring happens through the crew nearest to you, so location matters. There’s no application portal, no automated screening. Just a conversation about whether the work is a fit.
