Elite Welding & Fabrication: The New York City Owner’s Guide
We weld and fabricate Elite gate frames, hinge mounts, and operator brackets across New York City, with most repairs running $350-$1,200 installed depending on the damage and what the existing steel looks like. Same-day service is available for drive gates that won’t close or hang dangerously low. The way most owners find us is the way every welded repair starts: a crack that was a hairline six months ago, or a hinge that finally tore loose from the post.
What makes Elite gates different is the frame material. Elite ships galvanized steel on most residential models, and the factory welds are generally clean. Where they fail in New York City is at the stress points: the lower hinge, the operator bracket, and anywhere a weld sits against standing water after a winter of salt and slush. The steel is good. The environment is not.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
We weld on every Elite residential swing and slide gate we’ve encountered in the field: the SL3000, SL3600, and SL4230 line, plus the older CSW200 and the Estate Swing series when owners have kept them alive well past their expected service life. The welding we do falls into three buckets: frame reinforcement, hinge remounting, and operator bracket fabrication when the original bracket has cracked or the geometry was wrong from the start.
If you’re checking whether your Elite model is one we can weld, look for the serial plate on the gate frame or the operator arm. That plate tells us the series and, more importantly, whether the frame is galvanized or powder-coated, which changes the prep work completely. Galvanized steel must be ground clean before any weld holds; powder coat is forgiving, but the welder needs to know which they’re burning into before striking an arc.
One compatibility note that saves people money: not every Elite gate that looks cracked actually needs welding. Some “cracks” are failed factory welds, but some are just cracked paint over intact steel. Before we quote anything, we wire-brush the area and photograph what’s actually there. If the steel is sound, you get a written note saying so and a touch-up recommendation, not a welding invoice.
Signs Your Elite Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

- The gate sags at the latch side. Usually a hinge weld pulling away from the post or the frame. The gate still opens, but every cycle flexes the failing weld a little more.
- A visible crack at the base of the operator bracket. The motor pushes thousands of times a year against that bracket; if the factory weld was slightly cold, New York City winter cycles finish the job.
- The gate makes a sharp snap when it starts or stops. That’s often a cracked frame tube releasing tension, not just a hinge creak. It gets louder before it lets go.
- Rust weeping from a seam or weld joint. On galvanized Elite frames, rust at a weld usually means the zinc burned off during the original weld and was never re-sealed. We grind it, weld it, and cold-galvanize the repair.
- The gate binds mid-travel when the temperature changes. Steel expands and contracts; a gate that only binds on hot afternoons may have a frame weld that’s shifted out of square.
We photograph every one of these findings before we touch a tool. That photo log is yours, and it’s also part of our job record, which means if another technician ever looks at the same gate, they won’t be starting from scratch.
Before
AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In New York City, a welded Elite gate repair lands between $350 and $1,200 installed. The spread is driven by location and scope: a simple hinge re-weld in a private driveway runs lower; a post that needs to be re-set with concrete or a frame that needs new steel pieced in runs toward the top of the range. We’ll hand you a written price before any welding starts, and that price is exactly what’s on the invoice when we leave. No adjustments for “we found it was worse than we thought” unless we stop work and you approve a change.
Every welded Elite repair includes the labor, the consumables (rod, grinding discs, cold-galvanizing compound), cleanup of the work area, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the weld fails within a year, it’s on us, no charge. The only thing not included is a full repaint of the gate; most welded repairs don’t need one, and we’d rather tell you that than sell you a paint job.
DIY or Call Us?

There are things you can check on your own that cost nothing and tell us a lot: run your finger along the welds at the hinges and operator bracket (wearing gloves, because jagged steel is unforgiving), take a photo of the serial plate I mentioned earlier, and measure the sag at the latch side with a level. That’s useful information to have when you call.
What I’d ask you not to do is reach for a 110-volt flux-core welder from a home center and try this yourself. Gate frames are load-bearing. A cosmetic bead that doesn’t lay full-penetration into the joint will look fine for three months and then fail catastrophically, usually with a stretch of driveway underneath it. We also do a lot of repair work on gates that were “fixed” this way. If the repair is in line with a gas, electrical, or water line near the post, all the more reason to have a professional look at it. Welding requires proper eye protection, ventilation, and experience with the specific steel you’re working. It’s not a place to learn on your own property.
If you’d rather have a real weld and a written record, call (928) 260-0864. We’ll send a background-checked technician with the right equipment and a quoted price before anything gets burned in.
FAQs
Factory Elite welds typically last 8-15 years around New York City before stress cracks begin, depending on gate size, wind exposure, and whether the gate was properly installed. Our repair welds, done with full-penetration passes and re-sealed against corrosion, are covered for one year and generally outlast the surrounding factory work.
It depends entirely on the crack. A single crack at a hinge or bracket is weldable if the surrounding steel is sound and not rusted thin from the inside. A frame that’s rusted through in multiple spots is a replacement conversation, not a welding one, and we’ll show you the thickness measurements so you know why.
Most Elite welding repairs on New York City drive gates are done in 2-4 hours on site. That includes grinding the area clean, welding, cooling, and applying corrosion protection. If we’re re-setting a post in concrete, the schedule changes because the concrete needs cure time before the gate goes back on.
For welding jobs, we stock the consumables and the common steel sections used in Elite frame repairs across New York City. We also keep Elite-compatible hardware, hinges, and brackets on the truck, along with parts for the other major brands we service: LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls. Name what you found. Name what it costs. Name what you left behind. That’s how we leave every job, and your photo log plus written record is part of it.
